2009 Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper Sucks Thread

The more I read the more the Mike Adams pick grows on me. Ultimately we'll have to wait and see, but (as we often repeat) it's hard not to give Colbert the benefit of the doubt.

============================

Got a chuckle today out of going back through the past drafts and finding a few scouting reports on good old Santonio Holmes after we drafted him. Some of the ironic gems included:

"Hard working, team leader"
"A safe pick, character-wise"
"good teammate, and a willing blocker"
"A Pittsburgh-type high character player"

Uhhh...WHOOPS! Honestly, I thought even back at the time of the pick there were some character concerns, although its possible my mind is fabricating that based on everything thats happened with him since he broke into the league.

Just goes to show you how wrong some pre-draft analyses can be -- you don't really know these guys until you throw a bunch of money at them and watch em play for a year or two.

Anyone read the rags to riches then back to a Condo story on Leon Searcy?  Pretty shocking to say the least, he just blew a lifetiime of savings away living beyond his means with no plan for the future. About the only thing he got right was setting up a Trust Fund for his kids to go to College.

I really hope Maurkice Pouncey, Cameron Heyward, and or Max Starks take Mike Adams and big brother him into a model citizen. This is his dream, being on the Steelers 53 man roster is about 6,000,000 to 1.

Manti Te'o has been mentioned as a target for 2013, Credit Demolislher43 for bringing up David DeCastro about a year ago. Anyone else seeing Monte Ball running behind David DeCastro?  I wonder how Marcus Lattimore heals up and where he goes if he comes out as a Junior. You would think the injury would drop his stock a bit and make him think that if he is healthy, grab the big payday while you can. THe world is full of guys who played thier senior year, got injured, never saw a dime from the NFL.

So who had the best draft in 2012, My answer is the Cincinatti Benglas.

1. Dre Kirkpatrick CB
1. Kevin Zeitler OL
2. Devon Still DT
3. Muhammid Sanu WR
3. Brandon Thompson DT
4. Orson Charles TE
5. Shaun Prater CB
5. Marvin Jones WR
5. George Iloka S
6. Dan Herron RB

I think Te'o will be gone by the time we draft next, #32 is way too late in the draft for him to fall.

If this draft pans out trading up could be a good option.  I would not mind pulling off a trade like the Cowboys to get into the teens?

back up QB- 3rd or later
HB - see how they fall
WR- need up in the air, usually don't take a 1st rd
TE - a possibility Miller make almost 8 mil in 2013
OL- hopeful it is fixed will not draft before the 3rd
DE- would like to get a speed guy who could add weight (like Jones or Crawford this draft)
DT- a back up with speed would be nice, could be used in the nickel (not a 1st or 2nd rd pick)
LB - that is what we would be drafting
CB- not a high draft position to begin with
S- 2013 a better draft at this position, could be where we want to go

While I like Te'o, taking LB this high would mean Spence is not working out, and 1 yr is not enough time to determine how he will do in the NFL
The Steelers could be better served taking a safety of the future, or cornerback for that matter.  Bill Parcells said in his pre-draft show, "If I was coaching in today's NFL, I would have 3 CBs and 1 safety so I could keep my LBs on the field.  Nickel gives up too much to the run."

Saw two things on ESPN's NFL32 that justify the title for this thread the hair's pick for the SB Packers and Guess who everybody at ESPN favorite the Patriots. Do you think Brady has his own parking spot in Bristol.

Also maybe the biggest douchebag on ESPN Tim Hasselbeck prediction the Steelers will not make the playoffs in 2012 because how is this for a reason the number of turnovers the defense produced last year didn't he realize with the amount of turnovers they created last year they went 12-4 and made the playoffs. You think he is still bitter about his brother losing the SB in 2005 I would say yes.
