2009 Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper Sucks Thread

Some tidbits about the Steelers' luck with David DeCastro from Rotoworld:

According to the New York Daily News, the Jets would have selected Stanford OG David DeCastro at No. 16 overall if Quinton Coples had been off the board.

"In love" with S Mark Barron, the Jets would also have "aggressively pursued" a trade up had he dropped to No. 10 overall. Viewed as NFL-ready with no holes, DeCastro may have been a candidate to start at right tackle had he ended up with the Jets. DeCastro will stay at guard in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers considered trading up from No. 24 overall to select OG David DeCastro.

"Really, we didn't think David would be there at 24 quite honestly," said GM Kevin Colbert. "We valued him that high ... This kid is an exceptional player." DeCastro's consistency grade of 96.88 last season was the highest in the Pac-12 since the stat was introduced in 1985. The Steelers will likely keep him at right guard, leaving Ramon Foster to hold off Doug Legursky at left guard.

A team source tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the Steelers were "close" to selecting Alabama ILB Dont'a Hightower with the No. 24 pick, but opted for Stanford OG David DeCastro because he "has no holes."

The Steelers were consistently linked to Hightower in the run up to the first round, but opted for the draft's consensus top guard. Linebacker is a position of need for the Steelers' rapidly aging defense, but reinforcing an offensive line that struggled with injury and ineffectiveness across the board in 2011 was an absolute must.

Still willing to move on. DeCastro was a great pick and we all should be happy but beach wants to argue. I'm done talking about it because I know I'm right.

Well, better not be an O-lineman because somehow if they take an OL in the first two rounds, Tomlin's an idiot and if they don't take an OL in the first two rounds, Tomlin's an idiot!

I would not be shocked to see them go OL again in round two. Silatolu, Brandon Brooks, Osmele, Mike Adams are all possibilities.  We obviously don't know the Steelers rankings.  I doubt that DeCastro's teammate, Jonathan Martin will be there.  Might not be a bad idea to address the OL in the first two rounds, then address other needs since they have extra picks in the later rounds.

I think it will come down to these three:

Brooks
Kendricks
Ta'amu

I think Kendricks will be the pick, it's not a deep ILB draft, if they do pass up Ta'amu, then look for Martin or Chapman to be the pick in 3. I'm not sure if they are high on Ta'amu, with brooks it gives us a swing man OG/OT and it would sure up our O-line for years.

Imagine having:

Gilbert - Brooks - Pouncey - DeCastro - Colon  / then you have Legursky, Foster, Essex, and Starks when he is fully healed from his ACL, amongst others.

Could be the best o-line in the NFL

The first ones under Bruce Irvin and Brandon Weeden killed me.  (BTW, the author is a Titans fan who loves David DeCastro, which explains the angry reaction the the Steelers' pick.)

i think ta'amu is a reallllllllllllllllllly good prospect, if PIT can snag him, id call the whole damn draft a massive success. i wish the Ravens needed him but we simply dont.

I guess i should ask what people think of mentioning players before i mention others but the kid out of PIT uni, the D lineman, is another kid i like as an early sat player.

there is just so much damn talent left, other teams drafted so damn poorly that they let legit first rounders even top 25 talent slide out of the first round...god thank these idiotic front offices.

mom im pretty sure thats just an antivirus piece of software, meaning its very bad at stopping and detecting adware and spyware, anti-virus software does not handle trojans and such very well at all. if you want to be safe, first i would suggest using eset nod 32's internet security sweet which is hands down the best internet security system and anti virus on the planet that is publically availble and then get malware bytes.

I don't know...I kind of trust our IT guys to come up with the best solutions needed for our networks...especially since technically, we're IT providers.  But thanks for the suggestion.

As for that d lineman i was referring to he is out of Cinci not PIT and i think he has risen a whole lot from earlier in the year.

i didnt realise how much talent had actually slid, i think this is a solid time to have a lot of picks in the 2nd and 3rd, i would actually be all for using an extra 4th and a 2nd and moving up in the second for the Ravens.

not sure who pit will get but looking at how things are going im pretty sure somehow, someone amazing will just slide.

I was thnking the same R2.  I don't care who you are, the Steeler and Raven defense can't wait for you to try the run.  If the likes of all that have been available to play against both our teams over the last decade can't put a chink in our collective armor ... don't believe Richardson will either.
