Just because we are in the offseason, that doesn't mean that Aubrn can't find a way to make it into the college football headlines.  On Friday, the Auburn Police Department issued a report that four Auburn football players had been arrested for armed robbery.

On Friday, March 11, 2011, the Auburn Police Division arrested four people and charged each of them with five counts of Robbery 1st Degree, one count of Burglary 1st Degree, and one count of Theft of Property 3rd Degree. They are identified as Antonio M. Goodwin, age 20, Kowaski Q. Kitchens, age 19, Michael A. McNeil, age 22, and Harrison D. Mosley, age 19. All list an Auburn address. At approximately 12:25 a.m. this same date officers responded to a residence located in the 2300 block of Lee Road 137 (Wire Road) in reference to the report of a robbery that had just occurred. According to the five victims present, three black males entered the residence with one displaying a handgun. Personal property was stolen during the incident. No injuries were reported. A patrolman responding to the area observed what he believed to be the suspect vehicle based on a description he was given. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1200 block of Wire Road and four suspects were taken into custody. A pistol and the stolen property was recovered at the scene. Goodwin, Kitchens, McNeil, and Mosley were transported to the Lee County Detention Center where each is currently being held on a $511,000 bond.

Obviously all very serious charges, head coach Gene Chizik wasted no time to take action.

"The players arrested in connection with this deeply troubling incident have been permanently dismissed from our football team," coach Chizik said in a prepared statement.  "While we realize the legal process will run its course and these young men have a right for their case to be heard, playing for Auburn University is an honor and a privilege. It is not a right."

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

IF this was the week before the BCS or SEC championship game the NCAA would suspend the players and then declare them eligible pending investigation.  That is if they are anywhere on the depth chart and play....

THen the four players would split the Heisman while the NCAA rakes $$$$$$$

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

Before I was not certain of Cam Newton's guilt in the "loan incident" but this latest mess involving fellow Auburn footballers only proves that there is a certain wreckless and lawless attitude among the players and I'm more than certain that Newton bought into what Gene Chizik was selling.

They want to lynch your dumba$$ coach because he LIED. Not only did he lie to everyone, him and the AD went to work making sure they could play in the bowl game they should have been watching from thier rooms in Columba$$. Let's not forget also that your fine outstanding coach who just happened to put out a book about winning and doing things the right way(hypocrite)basically left these young men out to dry by not stepping up when these alligations were brought up and saying hey, I knew about this and want to help make it right. You were right about one thing, what these young men did was make a mistake, but the bottom line is it was against NCAA rules. I'm sorry these guys thought so much of the awards the TEAM earned that they could just give them away cheap.

You want to speak about hypocrisy?  How about the NCAA?  The NCAA caved to the almighty $$$ when they allowed those OSU boys play in the Sugar Bowl.  Basically, the NCAA ignored the same rule people want to crucify Tressel for violating.  The schools and NCAA are making $ Millions selling gear based on players' accomplishments on the field, yet the OSU 5 get suspended for selling their gear for gas money.  Yes, I know there is a good reason for the rule, but the whole system is badly convoluted.  And yes, Tressel did break a rule.  I am greatly disappointed in his actions, and he deserves the punishment coming his way.  But let's not act like the NCAA is not guilty of doing the exact same thing Tressel did.

BTW, I don't get your comment about Tressel leaving his guys out to dry.  They broke the rule, and were punished for it.  Had Tressel reported it when he should have, they still would have been punished.  Seeing as to how it was about the same time as the A J Green affair at UGA, and the suspensions were somewhat comparable, I doubt it made much difference.

Now if we can just get the two schools to come together, this might be the makings a of a profitable business!!!!!  Well maybe not, it seems all involved were caught.......oh well, just a thought :)

That all sounds good when you say it, but it just isn't true.

You cannot say that the SEC's SOS is the product of playing a weak OOC schedule.  There is only evidence to debunk that logic.

IE: Kentucky went 4-0 in OOC play and never entered the polls.

Oregon State on the other hand was ranked with a 0-1 and 1-1 record.  Oregon State. by the way, did not qualify for a bowl.

Nice try.

Just dumb. Criminal charges vs NCAA charges. The dirtiest NCAA program vs OSU. CaM Newton done yet? Nope.... because once they indict every criminal on their board, there will be nothing left. they already have 2 down.

I don't live in a glass house because I understand that my Wolverines definately have their fair share of problems...i.e. our dip$hit old coach who could'nt relay to the quality coaches to keep track of the hours they spend with the players, but come on dude, you make it sound like it's ok to break the rules, as long as nobody has a gun pointed at them.

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

Auburn did the right thing by dismissing the players immediately. OSU knew, lied about it, continues to lie about it at the top levels and welcomed the players back like they are heroes. The level of offense by the players are not the only issue, the sleazy action of the school administration is part of the crime.
