While Derek Dooley and Tennessee had a nice finish to the 2010 season, one that will bring a bit more optimism to Knoxville heading into 2011, the Vols got some bad news on Monday. Safety Janzen Jackson, who missed Tennessee's loss to North Carolina in the Music City Bowl due to personal reasons, has withdrawn from the school.

“Janzen continues to battle personal issues of which our program is always going to be very supportive of,” Dooley said. “His withdrawal from school has nothing to do with disciplinary reasons on the football team and everything to do with a continuing battle of deep personal issues, of which we’re very supportive of.

“His leaving for bowl practice was not a punishment, and as long as he continues to manage his personal issues and football and school, he’s going to be welcomed back in the program. He’s clearly reached a point where the personal issues have become much greater than his ability to manage workouts and school.

“Until he gets a little clarity on those issues, we’re going to support him.”

While Jackson is going to miss spring practice, there is a possibility he'll be able to return for the fall if he can get everything taken care of. If not, though, then Dooley and the Vols will be heading into the new season without one of their most talented players. If he isn't the best player on the roster.

THIS "LOSER" HAD HIS CHANCE TO PLAY AT LSU AND CHOSE TO CHANGE HIS LETTER OF INTENT DIRECTION TO TENNESSEE FROM LSU AT THE LAST HIM.  HE'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE THE TIGER'S TEAM....

Special Teams??   LOL??  thats a 5-star recruit who will probablly be the best in the SEC next yr. He will be back, apart of me wants to tell everything I truly know, but I'm gonna keep a tight lip....my son plays for UT, is a FR, and lets just say this little disappearance isn't a shock! seen it coming months ago. probably not the kids decision.

cats

I am so glad you pointed that out.

I was thinking

wasn't Jackson the one who speared the receivers near the end of the game???

you helped confirm that!

+++

what is odd about the story is it sounds like

1- he dropped out of school
2- he could be back for the fall

not sure of the exact requirements

but if he misses a semester of school would he maintain academic eligiblity??

I don't wish bad on anyone, but if anyone has to have a problem of a personal nature, it could not have happened to a more deserving guy.  Jackson lied outright to the LSU coaches during his recruitment (supposedely at the prodding of Kiffen) by continually saying he was coming to LSU, only to announce he was going to Tennessee the day after signing day.  He said the delay was due to his mother being out of town, when really, it was only about Kiffen making a splash.  He is a heck of a player and I do wish he had more integrity and would have honored his commitment to LSU.  But, he choose to do otherwise.  I wonder if he is still happy with his decision as he was nothing more than a pawn to Kiffen and UT.

LSU doesnt need anther Ryan P. on the team just to get kicked off the team for doing something stupid. you forget this guy was the get away driver for a hold up in knoxville right afer he got there. And his dad made it very clear he didnt need to be hanging around Welsh, Louisiana  so he would not get in trouble

He should take a break and go home to Louisiana for a siesta.  Then he should transfer to LSU where he should have gone in the first place...
