Upon first glance at the Lego replica of Ohio Stadium that Paul Janssen built, my inner-hater screamed to come out through my finger tips.  I wanted to make fun of this grown man playing with Legos, but then another part of my psyche crept up and smothered the hater.  It was shame.  Looking at Janssen's 8 foot-by-6 foot recreation of The Horseshoe, I knew that I would never have as much patience to create something like that in my entire life.

Now I stare at that photo in awe of what Janssen's done.  You can question the motive behind building it, or the recreation's lack of a true purpose, but one fact still remains: Janssen did an amazing job.  Look at how accurate and detailed that stadium is.

What's even more remarkable about it is that, while college football will always have its zealots, one's driven to prove their devotion to the game or a school, Janssen wasn't even an Ohio State fan when he began his project.  He was just an associate professor at Ohio State, one who grew up in the Netherlands where the only football that mattered was the one where hands aren't optional.

He began the project just to do it because others in his Central Ohio Lego Train Club -- deep breath, Tom, deep breath -- mentioned doing it in passing, but nobody had the drive to actually do it.  Now, 1,000 hours and two years later, Janssen has done it.

So mock him if you must, and haters are going to hate, but Janssen has nothing but my respect for what he's accomplished.

"A typical penn piece of trash". Wow, you put me in my place, I am stunned. Not sure if I can recover from that demonstration in maturity, or the suggestion that I get into a fight with an overgrown 8 yr old. That is exactly what I was looking for.

"Art"? You are being facetious and mocking this clown, right? What he has built looks kind of cool I guess, but the reality is that it was a monumental waste of time, money and resources. I read another article where his wife was asked about this, and she said it would be best if she did not comment. Even SHE thinks he is a tool. This guy does not deserve respect for this project, but something more like,"Wow, that is kind of neat I guess, but what the hell is wrong with you?"

The article that linked over to the Dispatch, in a caption under a photo, said he bought Legos over "3 years", many online, and if he'd bought them new, it would have cost around $75,000. Zoikes!

As a Hawkeye fan living in southeast Iowa with several Buckeye "wannabe" transplants, I have come to despise THE* Ohio State University because they regularly beat us & because I've had to listen to it for over 35 years when OUR steel mill was moved here from Ohio. But I respect their football program & the GOOD people that support it & live for it like I do my own. But THIS is truly an amazing piece of art & I mean ART! I wish I could see it in person because it does look quite detailed. I wonder if this guy is for hire because I think it would be neat if my favorite FBS school could pay him to make us one. Just a thought. Nice job, Paul Janssen! Kudos to your Legos. Just remember to dot the "i" before you finish. Wink *= Does anyone else feel like THE Ohio State University is starting to have the same ring to it as when Larry the Cable Guy speaks of going to THE Walmart??? LMAO Tongue out
