Robert Bolden to transfer from PSU

It seems that quarterbacks on the bench at Penn State don't enjoy their time there very much.  For weeks it's been reported that backup quarterback Kevin Newsome, after losing the quarterback job to Matt McGloin and Robert Bolden, wouldn't be returning to Penn State next season.  The fact he didn't make the trip to Tampa for the bowl game basically confirmed it.

Well now it appears that Robert Bolden isn't going to stick around either.  Bolden's father, Robert Bolden Sr, told Lions247 that his son is looking to transfer.

"It's true, he's looking to leave Penn State,"said Bolden's father. "He's notified the coaches, that's as far as it's gone so far. We're waiting on the next step now."

"They're not looking for him to leave, they don't want him to leave, but he no longer wants to play at Penn State. He's not happy at Penn State currently. If it was up to me, he definitely [would leave], without a doubt. He's definitely made it known that he does not want to be there anymore."

Which means that Matt McGloin won't have much competition for the starting job next season, though don't sleep on freshman quarterback Paul Jones.  Considering McGloin just threw five interceptions against Florida in the Outback Bowl, that probably doesn't leave Penn State fans feeling all too comfortable.

Bolden started seven games for the Nittany Lions this season, throwing for 1,360 yards, 5 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.  He had been one of the prize members of Penn State's 2010 recruiting class.

Please...I'm not a McGloin fan or hater...he had a bad game (only 4 picks in his previous starts) and the coaching staff didn't pull him when maybe they should have (although he was organizing a pretty successful drive until he had that pick six.)

Just remember that Clark and Robinson didn't start out as superstars either.  Give the guy a chance to redeem himself before you judge the next 3 years.  If Jones beats him in the Spring, then so be it, but stop with the doom and gloom.

Robert Bolden to transfer from PSU

Hey Bowtobear, way to launch a post loaded with hate, stupidity, and useless generalizations. When did you find the time to gather all the evidence and data to prove that MOST PSU fans are mindless sycophants? Many PSU fans are of the mindset that Paterno has overstayed his welcome, but we are also appreciative of of that he has done for our school and are hoping that he takes next year as his opportunity to bow out at the end of his contract. Showing the man respect is certainly a far cry form being mindless sycophants.

Why the outhouse bowl and the big-weyadayadayada? You going to try to tell me thepac10 is any better than big10? Kind of hard to defend big10 after Saturday's performance, but last year we cleaned up in the bowls, so what does that mean? And are they going to change pac10 to pac11 now? pac10 and big10 are very comparable leagues whether you choose to admit it or not. Both have their up and down years.

Not all PSU fans are sold on McGloin (correct spelling intentional). After the 3rd interception, I certainly would have been in favor of giving Boldin a chance. I hate losing a kid like that, but if he feels the writing is on the wall, then now is perfect time for him to go. He can go
1A and sit one year, then have two elligible years left. Hope Paul Jones sticks it out, stays in class, and pans out because 3 more years of McGloin may be painful.

Save your sympathy for someone who cares jerkoff, we don't need it from aholes like you anyway.

Another year of mediocrity out of PSU with McGloin at the helm. At least he makes a lot of funny faces at the opponents sideline to instill fear or whatever it is he is trying to do.

I totally agree.  Is there something with this generation of athlete thinking they are owed something before they earn it?  There's nothing wrong with hard work and determination.

They all think they are Cam the cheater Newton now...Listen let them go, they cant throw.  They had a shot and failed, way to teach your kids to fight to get back to the top. No cry and leave, and daddys behind them...Nice example to set.

So how many PSU games did you actually watch this year?  I watched everyone from opening kick off to the end, even the Outback bowl.  Yes, McGloin had a bad game.  Not saying he's without flaw, but I saw nothing from Boldin or Newsome to show they had any leadership ability.  Love having you PSU haters posting on a PSU story.

Laughing Thanks for making me laugh on a cold Monday morning! You seriously think that McGroin (misspell intentional) has the ability to LEAD? ROTF!!! He makes the hideous run of my alma mater's former QB Kevin Riley look Montana-like in comparison. Did you not SEE the Outhouse Bowl?

Maybe it's just one more piece of evidence that JoePa's completely lost his marbles. And knuckleheads like you will defend him until he croaks on the sidelines and PSU falls into the Big-weshouldbecalled12butwecannotco

untpast10 second division. Of course, since most of Penn State's fan base are mindless sycophants and almost as obnoxious as U$C's loser faithful, it's hard to have any sympathy.

Devlin, Newsome, and now Boldin transferring out of PSU in the last couple of years.  I guess they wanted to be handed the starting job rather than having to go out there and earn it.  Good for them and good for PSU.  I'd rather see somone like McGloin walk on and earn his way there.  He may not have the best raw talent, but looks like he had something the others don't.  The ability to lead.    Only time will tell.  WE ARE PENN STATE!!!!!

Not that he was "lighting it up" all year, but McGloin did do something no other PSU QB has ever done -- back to back 300+ yard games.  He also was stated to bring something to the huddle that Bolden didn't -- moxie -- and he used his legs to move around instead of sitting in the pocket and taking sacks like Bolden.

To my best recollection, McGloin threw very few picks in his previous starts...although his Outback picks make you scratch your head.  Based on the video of Bolden standing on the sideline chewing on his mouthpiece during the game, it looked like his head wasn't in it.

It's unfortunate to lose two highly rated QBs in a month, but considering the pool of great QB recruits in the approximate same class, what should we expect?  Paul Jones looked good in the Blue-White game, so hopefully it will be an open competition.  Also, remember that Daryl Clark didn't light anything up in his first few games.

I was afraid of this.  Very bad news for the Lions.  McLoin looks like a Flag Football QB out there.  Remninds me of Zack Mills.  He definitly throws it around, but who knows where it's going.  He doesn't have Bolden's pedigree.  Who can blame the kid for looking elsewhere though.
