Mike Haywood seems to be Pitt's next target

So you've asked the prettiest girl in class to go to the dance with you, and she said yes.  You're excited.  Today is the day of the dance, and you've got yourself a nice new suit, a haircut and you're wearing some generic knockoff of a very expensive cologne.  You are ready to rock her world, but there's a problem.  You go to pick her up in your mom's car, and when you get to her house her parents told you she's already left for the dance with the kid who lives down the street from you.

"But he already has a girlfriend," you yell, tears already beginning to form in your eyes.

Dejected, you get back into the car.  You have two options now.  You can feel sorry for yourself, go home and cry yourself to sleep, or you can go to that dance, find any other girl there and show her the time of her life.  All while little Dana Ditchedyou stands and watches you.  So what are you going to do?

Well, it looks like Pitt has chosen the latter.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Miami (OH) head coach Mike Haywood was on campus on Tuesday to interview for the head coaching job a day after Dana Holgorsen spurned Pitt for West Virginia.
Officially the job has not been offered to Haywood - officially - but he is in Pittsburgh and from everything I can tell based on who I have talked to this morning, he is the first candidate that has actually been brought to campus and it is likely he is now fully in the crosshairs of this thing.
So stay tuned, you, meaning Pitt fans, could have a coach in place shortly.

Haywood went 1-11 in his first season at Miami in 2009, but the Redhawks went 8-4 this season to win the MAC East, and defeated Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship game.

I feel for you pitt fans.  steve pedersen is a joke.  he did the same thing at nebraska when he fired solich with absolutely NO gameplan in place to replace him.  was rumored to be turned down by houston nutt and, ironically, wanny (amoung others) before hiring the man, the myth, the legend, bill callahan.....it took 5 years to recover from this before pelini won a division title.  the guy is a trainwreck.

plus I'm a miami alum and wouldn't mind seeing haywood stick around there for a bit longer!

So Sad, but this is what you get with an uninformed AD, who was quickly fired by a University that is serious about football; Nebraska! This guy shouldn't be AD @ a Single A HS pogram. He has made Pitt look so bad, does it really matter anymore? Them losing on Golden to Miami then Holgorsen to WVU is ridiculous. I wonder is it a money thing? Is Pitt cheap and pathetic @ the same time being run by bozo's? As an Alum, just embarrassing, back in the 1980's when I was there, they cared.  I wonder how many empty seats in Heinz field this year?

Let's look @ Peterson's adventure's here. First tear down an old but on campus stadium. Now students are bused by public transportation to Heinz field, what tradition! Next, he hire's Dave Wandstedt, great guy, never a great coach. Then fires Dave, but has no-one to replace him. Throws names out to local papers who's he's looking, nothing hapens. Both leading candidates sign elsewhere.  In Holgorsen's case, he chose WVU over Pitt. Now he wants Pitt fans to accept another coach with no resume' for the job. The guy wasn't a good OC @ ND, this is the guy to lead Pitt now? A below .500 coach in the MAC is to lead Pitt? What a sham this is.

Jamie Dixon, he looked everywhere, it was the team that got Dixon hired. He waited till he had no other option. Why not hire Cignetti at this point, keep your recruits, and have an OC with some background. I cannot believe Peterson still has a job. Alos wonder does Pitt brass care about football anymore? Do they understand that $900k doesn't get top guys here?

Wanny must be in tears, just don't know if he's laughing or crying at this point!

Well, they fire Dave W. for a similar type of guy. Here is what i know about Dave W, who they fired.  As a coach he was avg at best on gameday. He played so conserative that it would make your Gram cry.  On defense he never blitzed, never, unless it was a special occasion, like his wedding anniversary.  He would punt from he opponets 40, but fake punt on his 30.  He would answer a question and say, "not sure what to do."  However, here is what I liked about Dave. Players loved him and he could recruit. When he spoke you said, I love this guy and I want him to win.  Hell, six years later we have not won the Big East, but unless you are giving me some crazy new offense or Peterson from Boise, please don't take my Dave away.  I like him.

Oh boy!  Pitt winds up with egg on face as usual.  No better than 3rd choice for job. Even if he turns out to be a great choice, the short-term embarassment is upsetting. Maybe it's time for Pederson to be "reassigned" (resigned).

They better not hire this guy.  He's likely to be the next urban meyer without the pedigree.  He'll leave a MAC school for PITT and use this as a springboard to an even more upper echelon school.  They need to get chris peterson from boise and pay him big.  Or keep cignetti there and let him build on that offense.  i'm sure wanny kept things conservative!
