In the latest episode of As The Gruden Turns, Wednesday morning brings some clarification to Tuesday night's reports from Canesport.com.  According to a story in the Miami Herald, a "high-level UM source" has indicated that Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt has traveled to Tampa to meet with Jon Gruden, a meeting expected to take place on Wednesday.

Two members of Miami's Board of Trustees have indicated to the Herald that Gruden is the top choice in the search to replace Randy Shannon, but they are concerned he might decide to wait for a job in the NFL.  As suggested by Sports Illustrated's Peter King, Gruden was initially uninterested in the position.  But he has since begun to entertain the possibility of returning to the college sideline.  The purpose of Hocutt's trip was to determine whether Gruden would take the position if offered.

The Herald also clarified that while the aforementioned actions are being taken to work on Gruden, several trustees said the process had not reached the stage of "hammering out final details" as the Canesport.com report suggested.  If Gruden says no to Hocutt, Miami has begun assembling their list of next-best options.  That list is reported to include Mississippi State's Dan Mullen, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh, Connecticut's Randy Edsall, Utah's Kyle Whittingham, Arizona's Mike Stoops, and at least two other names.

Best conference in the nation ??  LMFAO!!!!!!  The Big Ten is probably the most BORING conference in the nation. Nothing compares to the SEC, and no my favorite team doesnt play in the SEC, just sayin, get real...

Wrong UM

Gruden should be headed for the real U of M in MINNESOTA.  Turn around a program in the best conference in the nation.  Miami is part of a lame and weak football conference and is also a has been.  Take on a real challenge Gruden!!

So if Gruden joins, will that make the only white person on the team?

With the endless talent in FL, Gruden would be a great coach but I hope he doesnt take it.  He is also rumored to work for his old friend Mike Holmgren in Cleveland once they dump Mangini.  No recruiting, just coaching, plus he is from Sandusky, OH, less than an hour to Cleveland.  Seems like a better fit.

He's just a friendly guy, can't criticize anyone, just because he he praises Brady Quinn doesn't mean he doesn't realize he is a complete sack of crap. Think of how good he would recruit for Miami, like, he would pull in some mad ridiculous classes, he would get them back to a level that is expected of them.

I am torn on the choice for this position.  Leach is a MUCH better coach, more qualified, and is more of what Miami needs now in a coach...but the opportunity to NOT have to listen to Gruden on t.v. anymore......decisions decisions.  I submit the interjection on Monday Night Football last year when Gruden said, "I can't say enough about this oustanding young man Brady Quinn!" as my proof of his incompetence in the announcer booth.

One thing UM needs to return to prominence is an on-campus stadium.  They lost so much of their mystique moving from the Orange Bowl to Joe-Pro-Dolphin-Landshark-Sun Stadium.
