Report: Gruden and Miami close to deal

It seems that the dance between Jon Gruden and Miami may not be done after all.  Two days after Gruden released a statement saying that he was happy with his current job at ESPN, a report on Canesport.com says that Gruden and Miami are very close to a deal.  In fact, the report says that the two sides are basically just hammering out the final details.
Sources have told CaneSport that final details are being hammered out and, barring a last minute glitch, Jon Gruden will be the next Miami Hurricanes football coach.

The report also says that if Gruden is hired, his brother Jay Gruden will be brought on as his offensive coordinator, and that the deal could be announced as early as Wednesday.

Still, the phrase from the report that stands out to me is "barring a last-minute glitch."  That leaves an awful lot of leeway should this not come to fruition.  Especially since this is the same site that pronounced Dan Mullen "Option 1A" earlier on Tuesday.

If I were a Miami fan, i wouldn't go getting my hopes up or start trying to sell Chuckie dolls in Miami jerseys just yet.

Report: Gruden and Miami close to deal

MIAMI is desperate to get back to being the team it once used to be...and having Gruden would be a good match. Just curious how much he currently makes as a broadcast analyst????

Mullen would be a great choice but he just got to Miss State and that program is growing. Had they played Auburn later in the year they may have won that one.

IMO

Say it isn't so! Please Jon, what in the world are you thinking? The viewers of MNF football need you!

Jon Gruden is by far my favorite football announcer, bar none. He'll be sorely missed (at least by me - and I'm certain countless others). God, please don't bring Dennis Miller back.

We all know the competitor that he is. I wish Jon nothing but success in Miami. Wait, cancel that. I hopes he fails miserably so he comes back to MNF - STAT.

Never been a Miami fan but could root for them if Chuckie enters the picture. I feel bad for Randy Shannon......he cleaned it up and got academics up. He just didnt win. Apparently that is the bottom line. Gruden can win and bring the hammer

Why does evreyone assume that NFL success translates to college success? Go with a proven college success.  Go with Mullen.

UM is small university, to bring Gruden and associates will cost about 10 to 12 Mils.

Bold:  It has already been worked out on the money side of things between the two parties.  Finally the big boosters had seen enough and are ponying up.

I'd hate to see Gruden leave MNF.  He's the ONLY reason to leave the sound on during the game.

Hmmmm. Hey BOLD.  Add what the players get, it will be to much money for Miami to handle. Wink

Report: Gruden and Miami close to deal

The Ducks are over rated. At the end of each season they collapse like a pancake or get blasted in a bowl game. Miami needs Jon Gruden, but Jon Gruden  does not need Miami. It is interesting that he does not wait to see what NFL coaching jobs are available this season. He just covered the 49ers-Cardinals game on Monday night and I sense that he was holding back criticism on the two teams. He is the football expert and I expected him to be really hard on them. but his comments were tempered to say the least. Perhaps he was trying not to hurt anyone's feelings by not not speaking the truth, but I get the feeling that he doesn't want to offend the 49ers or Cardinals in case they come knocking on his door with a job offer.
