Miami quarterback Jacory Harris threw an interception near the beginning of the second quarter against Virginia.  That is not news.

But as he let the ball go, Harris took a DEVASTATING hit from Virginia defensive tackle John-Kevin Dolce.  Harris has been known to hang in the pocket, and it is often considered one of his strengths as a passer.  But with his eyes downfield and arm extended, Harris had no time to prepare for Dolce's brutal hit.  He laid on the ground, surrounded by the entire Miami training staff and both head coaches before walking off the field with some assistance. No word yet on his return, but judging by the hit and his woozy reaction, I'm guessing they are not going to trot a Zombie Jacory back on the field before conducting some tests.

[UPDATE, 1:56 p.m.: Harris will not return to the game, and judging by the video of the hit, it's pretty easy to see why.]

Brutal game

While the NFL is rightly. but scarily, setting fines on players for questionable hits, the hit Jacory Harris took was a clean, albeit monstrous game ender.
The Canes could not, but almost did (thanks to a very weak Virginia team) overcome the loss of their 'star' quarterback, in part because the other guys do not get enough time to practice with the first team.
Jacory was the man on campus and the 'Franchise". IF he is gone, i cannot see Miami recovering, unless they play up to their strengths, team speed and well, ... team speed.
Their defense, once the hallmark of the greatest of UM teams, has deserted them, especially giving up yards via the run, making their line appear like swiss cheese.
I do hope that Jacory is ok, but the hit underscores what people sometimes forget: A brutal game, and one brutal play, can change the course of a player's life and a team 's season in the blink of an eye.
