The BCS rankings were just released on ESPN, and seeing Boise State at No. 3 is, at this point, trouble for the Broncos.

What's important to note here is that the BCS standings are, for the most part, resume rankings, and unlike teams in the power conferences, the cream of Boise's resume is done. Yes, the Broncos play in the WAC, but they've only played two of those eight games against that WAC competition thus far. Meanwhile, cupcake non-conference schedules are still being more heavily considered than conference games at this point in the season.

In other words, Boise State's not going to make its case on the field any better than it already has from here on out.

Now, this isn't to say that Boise State's chances are completely doomed; far from it. The Broncos are still ranked third in the BCS rankings, and there isn't much chance of them dropping any games and submarining their title chances from here until the end of the season. If Oregon or Oklahoma lose, the Broncos are in decent position. Their problem is that if teams like Auburn or LSU go undefeated, those teams are basically locks to pass Boise State -- and TCU's certainly not out of the picture, with its high-profile Mountain West Conference schedule still yet to come.

Still, though, the fact remains that Ohio State, Alabama, and Nebraska have all lost, and Boise State still needs help to get into the title game. That's not good news for the Bronco faithful in Idaho tonight.

Mark (or mock) down Nov 26 on the calendar.
Auburn vs. Alabama
The winner plays someone in the BCS Championship game.
Will it Boise State or TCU?  or will a one loss team creep back up.
The Ducks are ready to go Quack!

Now that we've seen Missouri beat Oklahoma, Iowa State beat Texas, and Texas Tech squeak by Colorado, plus the Nebraksa-Oklahoma State shootout, I got only one to say about Jokelahoma and Big 12 football beinf mediocre:

I TOLD YA SO!

Tongue out

Eaglepimp4, I would expect an Auburn fan to feel no other way, I feel your pain. Who knows how they would have done against USC, they didn't play, but that night IMO? No, no one would have beaten USC. Besides that, I am still waiting for someone to tell me one BCS champion that is undeserving. I have no problem with top 4 teams playing, I have HUGE problem with 8 team and 16 team format.  If you can't find the number 1 team in the top 4, to hell with it. That insures regular season integrity, and takes care of any questions about an Auburn being left out. If you are no 5 that means you did something to place yourself there, once you lose it is now out of your hands and you are to blame. I am much more concerned about an undefeated AQ team such as Auburn being left out, then what happens to say a two loss Florida National champ.

I want no part in hot  HEALTHY team down the stretch national title winners. You would think SEC fan would understand that, a playoff rewards those teams with poor SOS. I really do not hear Boise fan making a big stink about their place, it is everyone else that is upset about it. They understand they will slide. And they should. Now if Boise wants to get serious about actually playing in title game, they know what to do. They will have to schedule an SOS that includes 1 and 2's and 1 and nones. If unwilling then they can continue to expect their slide. I hate how everyone rubs salt in their wounds on here.

Yes Auburn got the shaft in 2004 but i wouldn't hand the game over to USC so easily yet they would have done a better job than Oklahoma. The PAC 10 is a good conference but I wouldn't make it sound like they are the only power conference in the league. The BIG 12 is impressive as well as the PAC 10 but it will all shake out in the end. Oregon and Stanford are the class of the PAC 10 and its obvious the SEC WEST is the class of the SEC. I will always pull for the underdog and like most just wish they had a playoff system rather than this computer generated/voting BS we have now.

Secman0612...I shouldn't even speak to an Amateur especially after such a silly argument, but it needs to be said....THE SEC IS DOWN! gasp! Oh no say it isn't so Joe Namath say it isn't so! Yea it is so. As much as ESPN hates it, especially after spending all that money to land their games, the SEC has the nerve to go and have a down year. What no Teebow? No man mountain Cody? 3 loss Fla? 2 loss power South Carolina? LSU and Auburn hanging on by fingernails to inferior teams? Soon only to have one 1 loss team left? Luckily Auburn and LSU do not play in real power conference like the PAC 10 or they'd already have losses.

All you BCS haters out there, tell me one time the best team wasn't crowned by the BCS? What is one national Champion they got wrong? Auburn is the closest to a team that got the shaft, and NO WAY they beat USC in title game that year, as we all know now that was best team money could buy. Go ahead go down the list, I'll wait.

I just want BSU to play in one Title game so all this crap will end. If they win or lose in a close game, they will have proven thier point. If they lose big time, then everyone else can send em back to the Blue Turf and be done with this for good.------------------------------

-----Agreed. That is all most of us want. Just this one year line up these undefeated mid majors against BCS teams and see what happens. Boise vs Oregon, TCU vs Oklahoma, Utah vs Auburn. The problem with that is that while most of us would be satisfied with this result, it will open a pandoras box of political uproar and fuel the class system bias that is place no matter what the outcome of the games are. If they mid majors win, they will pissed for years past that they were cheated out of the opportunity, if they lose then the majors will complain about the places of larger and more deserving schools that were replaced. Then the money issues will intensify, in either scenario. That is why the playoff system is the best choice, in my opinion. If the mid majors lose, big deal. They were simply warm ups for the "big boys". If they win, there will still be a major left to contend for the title. And if there isn't a major left to contend, then they didn't deserve to be there to begin with.

To amatuer jcvd1:

Oklahoma St in Stillwater is not a quality opponent, just an in-state rivalry with a school with a basketball rep.  Big deal, unless it's on the hardwood instead of the FieldTurf.

At this point the Big 12 title game is still up in the air, and winning that over anyone in the Big 12 north not named Nebraksa (who is also overrated), is definitely not a quality win.

Face facts: the Big 12 is weak in football and has been growing that way for a few years now.  Jokelahoma got its #1 rank based on bad computer programs and past reputation alone.
This post is idiotic, and the poster is just a jelous troll.

i really get tired of hearing people during the bowl season talk about how the sec is over rated because maybe an unsung team or two pulls an upset.  and it would be the same if boise st upset someone in the title game.  when you got one or two tough games for an entire season, and the biggest game you play you have like 45 days or more to prepare then in my opinion you haven't proven anything.  play in a tough conference, play tough games week in and week out with only a week to prepare and then if you go through undefeated you got something to talk about.  winning one big game with a whole off season to prepare and then if you win another at years end with a month and a half to prepare you haven't proven anything.  sure boise st has talented players, they are an excellent team.  they would be a quality team in a major conference.  but like i've argued for years about ohio state...put them in the sec and they would be one of the best teams in the conference but they wouldn't go undefeated every year.  i'm shocked they actually lost a game this season considering the big 10.
